Its hard to believe that two of these records are 18 years old. I was working in a record shop back in 1991 when Carl Craig's 4 Jazz Funk Classics was released, and it pretty much blew my mind, opening me up to a whole host of musical possibities. These records pretty much defy categorization. They rode in on the back of the Detroit techno invasion, but the sonic palette employed is coloured with a range of sounds and rhythms and textures that were unique in the dance music of the time. Carl Craig draws on a disparate range of influences that includes funk and soul and disco, cosmic italo, industrial, rock, jazz, modern experimental composition; the whole of musical history is probably in there somewhere, distilled down into a dizzying gritty mess of euphoric confusion. Perfect for Interplanetary Disco Dancing:

Anyone who has followed "Rab Hines's" obsessive Bruno dirt at Call It Anything has seen that "Hines's" sole purpose is to spoil the name of a well-known German trumpeter.
CIA is not about jazz. For "Hines", it's about terror, libel, and involving music lovers in his stalking activities. Anyone supporting "Hines" risks a visit from the authorities all-too-soon.
"Hines" is an unemployed, mentally ill person from New Jersey masquerading himself as a jazz fan. Though nobody knows his real name, his voice can be heard at Bruno's Alert Blog. Well-known is his IP address under which "Hines" spammed literally hundreds (!) of jazz blogs with pedophile comments.
For more, simply google "Rab Hines Alert Blog". It's the very first Google entry.
I always enjoy getting comments, its great to hear what people think or feel about the music that's posted here, and always a pleasure to have contact with people around the world. However, I don't much like the comments section of this blog being used as a forum for people to bitch, gossip, backbite, rumour-monger or otherwise spread bad vibes, so could I kindly ask people to desist from these activities in my virtual home. This is meant to be a place where people can share a love of music, a place where new connections can be made and musical cross pollination can be imagined, so lets keep things fluffy thank you very much!
good reaction to the Martin's comment, there's no place for that kind of bad vibe here.
by the way, nice blog and thanks for the good music !
Hi, i am with you. When Carl's 69 came out, i got my recordplayers out of the dust (yes kids, cd was told to be the future) to hear this slap of vinyl over & over ..and i still do when i want to return in memorylane and wonder why there isn't any fresh music with soul made since 1999 .. i am trying and listening hard for these kids to bring us that fresh 2000+ future sounds that was promised us long ago but all i hear is history on a bad repeat
[are you finished? yes i am :)
I've been stocking up on some old Carl Craig releases and remixes recently. True genius. Not a fan of every single one of his records but his musical range never ceases to amaze me.
