Homzy Trio Group - Green Eagles Special (1981)
Picked this oddity up in a flea market a couple of weeks ago, and it suits the incredibly good weather we're having here at the minute. This is some wonky highlife and native blues that was made in support of the Green Eagles, Nigeria's national football team who in 1981 were playing matches to qualify for the 1982 World Cup.
This is Rossanah Nwhere Obi Nwayo:

Great stuff. The Nigeria's golden voice, late Nelly Uchendu at her best. Thanks for this post.
Point of Correction: The Green Eagle Special track was possibly commemorating Nigeria's appearance at the 1982 African Cup of Nations in Libya and not the World Cup. Track 3 was very interesting in that Nelly Uchendu who was allegedly dating Jim Nwobodo, the then Nigerian Peoples Party governor of Anambra State at the time used "Onye Dara Ada" (He who has Fallen or Failed...)to dish the dirt and mock the failure of ex-Biafran stalwart and hero Chief Odumegwu Emeka Ojukwu (National Party of Nigeria candidate) to win the Senate seat he contested for in the 1983 general election, won by little known Jim Nwobodo's mate, Dr. Edwin Onwudiwe. Most Ibo people felt betrayed by Ojukwu's decision to join NPN instead of NPP. Very nice and rare LP! Thank you for sharing.
Wow. Thanks for the information Anonymous. I could find out nothing about the Homzy Trio Group, but didin't think to google Nelly Uchendu.
Great! Another Nelly album!
Moon Ra, I will have to try to check out the ET Mensah song. Thanks for the heads up.
