Fantastic chunk of funky Congolese Rumba from L'Afrique Danse, beautifully showcasing M'pongo Love's gorgeous voice. Apparently she married one of President Mobutu's sons, but don't let that stop you from giving this gem a listen. The influence of American funk is especially evident on side 2...

Mpongo Love died in january 1990. She was only 34.
What a marvelous voice...
Edé's one of the best breakbeat intro i ever heard.
also for the record, buraka sum features an angolese female mc named Pongo Love :)
Thanks for sharing this rare gem.
Mpongo Love was physically disabled but for her wonderful voice, even the sky wasn't a limit. "Ndaya" will remain her trademark song forever. And now I can hear what it sounded like on vinyl. :)
Getting to be one of my fave blogs many thanks for all your great shares
and Bileli is awwww awww sum! never heard it before. thx :)
and also, ede should be played at a reasonable speed of 33 rpm.
Glad you're enjoying this one pmgl. I especially like Pas Possible Mati, it breaks into a wonderful lazy groove.
Hi,the link isn't working...any chance to see this gem again?
The link still works but you may have to keep trying as rapidshare stops you downloading when there is lots of traffic. It's worth the wait though.
